IPOB Leader, Nnamdi Kanu

The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court on Friday dismissed a no-case submission filed by Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Justice James Omotosho held that the State Security Service (SSS) had made out a prima facie case against Mr Kanu for him to enter his defence in the alleged terrorism trial.

The judge held that the evidence presented by the prosecution through its five witnesses was such that there was a need for the IPOB leader to provide some explanations for the offences with which he was charged.

Mr Omotosho, then, adjourned the matter until October 8 for the hearing of the report of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA).

Mr Kanu, who was re-arrested in June 2021 by the federal government, is facing various charges, including treasonable felony and terrorism, offences he allegedly committed while agitating for a Biafra Republic.
