A Chief Magistrates’ Court, Wuse, Abuja, discharged a 20-year-old scavenger, Abba Ibrahim, charged with theft of protection irons.

The Magistrate, Fareeda Ibrahim, discharged Ibrahim following his guilty plea to the said charge and warned him to desist from committing crime and be of good behaviour.

“The items have been recovered from Ibrahim and he did not cause any harm, but if he is brought back to court again for crime, he would be sentenced accordingly, ” she said.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Chinenye Okafor, told the court that the complainant, Onuh Isaac, a security supervisor at John Wood Hotel, Zone 5, Wuse, Abuja, reported the matter at the Utako Police Station on September 16.

Ms Okafor said that one of the security guards at the hotel, Alfa Adamu, caught Ibrahim stealing protection irons from the hotel on the said date.

The prosecution also told the court that the item had been recovered, adding that the offence contravened the provisions of section 288 of the Penal Code.

Ibrahim, however, pleaded guilty and begged the court to temper justice with mercy, saying that he would not do it again.
