Country music superstar Garth Brooks has been accused of rape and sexual assault by a former hair and makeup artist identified as Jane Roe.

Roe, in a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday, alleged that Brooks assaulted her in 2019 when he arranged for them to share a single hotel room after a trip to Los Angeles for a Grammy tribute.

According to the complaint, the incidents occurred while Roe worked for Brooks and his wife, fellow musician Trisha Yearwood.

She alleged that Brooks forced her into sexual acts and that he had made sexually explicit remarks in her presence before the incident.

Roe’s lawsuit outlines a series of alleged inappropriate behaviours, including the forced exposure to Brooks’ genitals and disturbing text messages.

Brooks has vehemently denied the allegations, issuing a statement claiming the lawsuit is part of an extortion attempt.

He filed his suit in September, accusing Roe of fabricating the story to damage his career and force a large payout.

“Hush money, no matter how much or how little, is still hush money,” Brooks said.

“I trust the system, I do not fear the truth, and I am not the man they have painted me to be.”

Brooks, born in 1962 in Tulsa, is known for blending rock elements into country music. He revolutionised the genre in the 1990s with hit songs like “Friends in Low Places,” “The Dance,” and “If Tomorrow Never Comes.”

His albums consistently broke records, and he became the best-selling solo artist in U.S. history, surpassing even Elvis Presley.
