Corps members’ culture carnival float dazzles audience at Edo orientation camp

The 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream 1 corps members on Saturday turned the permanent orientation camp in Okada, Edo State into a hub of colour, culture, and camaraderie during a glamorous cultural carnival float celebrating Nigeria’s rich diversity.
The event featured traditional costumes, dances, and symbolic representations from various ethnic groups across Nigeria.
It also showcased unity in diversity as the corps members competed in inter-platoon displays of cultural heritage.
In her opening remark, the NYSC State Coordinator, Dr Frances Ben-Ushie, lauded the corps members and camp officials for their spirited participation.
Ms Ben-Ushie urged the corps members to continue to respect the customs and traditions of their host communities during their service year.
“The NYSC cultural carnival is not just about entertainment; it’s about learning, embracing one another, and promoting unity. This float is a reminder of the strength we derive from our diversity,” she said.
Platoon 8 emerged the winner after dazzling the crowd with their vivid portrayal of the iconic Benin Ikaba Festival.
Platoon 10 came second, honouring Hausa-Fulani traditions, while Platoon 4 took third place with an energetic display of Effik heritage.
The event also featured inter-platoon games, including the lively “catching the train” contest, adding excitement to the day’s celebrations.
In his remarks, the camp director, Akeem Adepeju, commended the corps members for their creativity and discipline.
