Construction of 126km of roads ongoing in Benue southern district: Official

The Governor Hyacinth Alia-led administration is constructing three major roads in the Benue South Senatorial District, with 126 kilometres.
Hembadoon Nongu, acting director of engineering services at the Bureau of Special Projects and Infrastructure, disclosed this on Saturday during a tour of the governor’s projects in the zone.
Ms Nongo said the roads, when completed, would connect the entire Benue South senatorial district and beyond.
The acting director stated that the 52-kilometre Awaji-Oju road project connecting Gwer East and Oju LGs was awarded to CGGC Global Projects Nigeria Limited at the cost of ₦25.7 billion.
She said the road was awarded in September 2024, while the contractor commenced work in October 2024.
Ms Nongu further said the work was progressing steadily, adding that the scope of the work was to construct the road up to asphalt finishing.
According to her, the road has reached 25 per cent completion.
At Igumale, Ado Local Government Area, the acting director said the 31.5-kilometre Igumale-Apa-Agila road was awarded at the cost of N19.3 billion.
She said the contract was awarded by the benefiting local government areas (LGAs) and co-funded by the state government.
Ms Nongu told the delegation that the road connecting Ado and Apa LGAs has already achieved 35 per cent completion.
“The 43-kilometre Obagaji-Okokolo-Agagbe road, which connects Agatu and Gwer West LGAs, is also ongoing according to specifications.
“We are hopeful that projects will be completed within the specified time,” he said.
The team toured Zone C and visited two primary health centres and school projects in Taraku, Gwer East, and Akpegede in Otukpo LGAs, among others.
The tour of projects is facilitated by a team from Timbuktoo Media Solutions led by the former Minister for Information, Labaran Maku, and Mike Omeri, a former director-general of the National Orientation Agency (NOA).
