Cocoa farmer docked for cheating business partner

An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday heard that Otun Anayor, a cocoa farmer fleeced his partner of N225,000.
The police had arraigned Mr Anayor for cheating and stealing.
Prosecutor Emmanuel Abdullahi told the court that the defendant committed the offence on September 15, 2022 at Saga Otun Village via Ile-Ife.
Mr Abdullahi said that the defendant cheated Adebisi Busayo when she gave him her cocoa farm, promising to give her 200 kg of dried cocoa beans.
He said that the defendant only gave 50kg to Ms Adebisi and refused to give her the remaining 150 kg cocoa beans valued at N225,000.
The prosecutor added that the offence contravened Sections 390 and 421 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the two counts’ charge of cheating and stealing.
Defence counsel Okoh Wonder applied for bail of the defendant in the most liberal term.
Mr Wonder promised that his client would not jump bail, but would provide reliable surety.
Magistrate A.O. Famuyide, however, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N100, 000 with one reliable surety.
Ms Famuyide said that the surety must swear an affidavit of means, reside within the court jurisdiction and be a building owner with N50,000 recognisances.
She then adjourned the case until January 6 for hearing.
