Coalition calls for defence of Nigeria’s democracy

The Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room, South-South zone, has called on Nigerians, politicians, and the international community to unite to defend Nigeria’s democracy.
It made the call in a statement by a spokesman, Jude Obasanmi, on Tuesday.
NCSSR, according to the statement, is a coalition of over 200 civil society organisations that promotes credible elections and good governance in Nigeria.
The coalition reiterated the need for those in authority to uphold constitutional principles.
It also urged Nigerians to remain vigilant against any actions undermining the constitutional foundations of the country’s democratic system.
According to it, the protection and preservation of democratic institutions are crucial for Nigeria’s stability, progress, and the well-being of its citizens.
The coalition stressed the importance of safeguarding human rights, upholding the rule of law, and maintaining the principles of federalism.
The group further urged the National Assembly to exercise its oversight function diligently, ensuring that the president’s actions aligned with the Constitution and preventing potential abuse of power.
