Cholera outbreak requires immediate response, say hotel owners

President, Hotel Owners Forum, Abuja, Funmi Kazeem , has said the recent outbreak of cholera in Nigeria is a public health concern requiring immediate attention.
Ms Kazeem stated this during an interview on Tuesday in Abuja.
According to her, she has advised hotels and restaurants to prioritise the health and safety of their guests and staff.
She added that they had put in place some modalities such as enhancing water treatment and quality control measures, regular disinfection and sanitation of all facilities to prevent any outbreak in the hospitality sector.
The president said that other modalities were proper food handling and storage practices, training of staff on cholera prevention and management and collaboration with health authorities to ensure prompt response to any suspected cases.
“As a stakeholder in the hospitality sector, I urge all hotels and restaurants to prioritise the health and safety of their guests and staff. We are committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for our guests and staff. Let us work together to prevent the spread of cholera in Nigeria,” she said.
She urged hoteliers and guests to maintain hygiene both personal and environmental.
Recall that the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, in a recent report, said that between January 1 and June 11, it recorded over 1,141 suspected cases with over 65 confirmed and 30 deaths in 96 local government areas in 30 states.
