China’s defence ministry says Japan’s military buildup causes concern

A Chinese defence spokesperson on Wednesday said that Japan’s rapid military buildup, including the development of offensive weapons and equipment, has raised vigilance and concerns among people worldwide.
Jiang Bin made the remarks at a regular press conference in response to a media query regarding the record defence budget request recently submitted by the Japanese Ministry of Defence.
Mr Jiang said that 80 years ago, the aggressive war initiated by Japan had caused immense suffering across Asian nations.
“Today, the resolve of regional countries to defend peace is stronger than ever, and we will not allow Japanese militarism to make a comeback,” he said.
The spokesperson urged Japan to reflect on its history of aggression and respect the security concerns of its Asian neighbours and the international community.
