China backs resumption of direct talks between Russia, Ukraine

China welcomed the resumption of direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine; this resulted from joint efforts of the international community, the Chinese Foreign Ministry told RIA Novosti on Monday.
“China has supported the restoration of direct dialogue and negotiations between Russia and Ukraine from the very beginning and welcomes the recent resumption of direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine,’’ the ministry said regarding the results of the talks in Istanbul.
The ministry added that China would continue to support all efforts to promote peace in Ukraine.
