Twenty-three-year-old former Miss South Africa contestant, Chidimma Adetshina, has been crowned Miss Universe Nigeria 2024, representing Taraba State.

The announcement was made by President of Silverbird Group, the organisation behind the competition, Guy Murray-Bruce, during the grand finale held at Eko Hotels & Suites in Lagos on Saturday.

Miss Adetshina emerged victorious from among 25 contestants, earning a grand prize of N10 million.

Her journey to this triumph was marked by controversy, including her withdrawal from the Miss South Africa 2024 competition due to xenophobic backlash related to her Nigerian nationality and scrutiny over her heritage and her mother’s alleged involvement in identity theft.

In a turn of events, Miss Adetshina came to Nigeria to compete in the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant as a second chance to pursue her pageantry dreams.

The top three winners of the contest were announced as follows: Miss Ondo was named Miss Lush, Miss Anambra was declared the first runner-up Miss Supranational, and Chidimma Adetshina took the overall winner’s title.

As Miss Universe Nigeria, Miss Adetshina will represent Nigeria at the Miss Universe 2024 pageant, scheduled for November 16, in Mexico.
