Chemical Society of Nigeria rounds off tree planning campaign at DICON

The Chemical Society of Nigeria, Kaduna State chapter, has conducted a tree planting campaign at the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), Kaduna.
The exercise was conducted at DICON Ordnance Factory, Kakuri Area, in Kaduna State on Thursday.
During the event, the Director-General of DICON, Maj.-Gen. Babatunde Alaya, emphasised the importance of tree planting for human health and the environment.
Mr Alaya said, “Trees help to clean the air we breathe and also play a role in cleaning water during rainfall. Trees provide shelter for people and animals, and tree planting is a long-term investment for future generations.”
The director-general expressed support for the CSN’s initiative and encouraged everyone to contribute to improving environmental health.
The Chairperson of CSN, Kaduna State chapter, Emi-Johnson Umoeka, said that the planting of trees was to recognise chemists’ contribution to pollution control aimed at helping clean up the environment.
Ms Umoeka said that the target was to plant 500 trees in Kaduna State, focusing on public schools and road corridors.
Shre said, “Other specific locations will be determined by the commissioner for environment.’’
According to her, the aim was to combat air, soil, and water pollution and create a healthier and safer city in the state.
Ms Umoeka stated, “By planting trees, it will mitigate the effects of deforestation and pollution, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable environment.’’
