Catholic priest urges Nigerians to renew vows to God amid economic challenges

George Shenge, parish priest of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Ombi 1, Lafia in Nasarawa State, has called on Nigerians to renew their vows to God and do good things that would promote peaceful coexistence.
“Every Nigerian, irrespective of religion, should turn to God in truth and spirit in the face of our economic, social and security challenges. He has the solution for every challenge,” Mr Shenge said in a sermon on Sunday.
The priest urged Nigerians, including political leaders, to trust God as capable of turning things around for good.
“If leaders and followers do things that please God, the situation of the country will change for good.
“God is the only solution to the country’s problems. It is not by magic. People should just decide to do the right things at all times,” he said.
He advised Christians to desist from making blasphemous statements such as “My situation is too bad. As such, I will not pray again”.
“If we make such careless statements, God will be angry with us,” he said.
He said humanity was experiencing the greatest existential challenges due to harsh economic and social conditions.
“But life is like a book with many pages and chapters; therefore, people should never give up on God because the Holy Spirit can renew every situation,” he said.
