Catholic commission donates relief materials, cash to 1,850 displaced households in Plateau

Justice Development and Peace Commission of the Catholic Archdiocese of Jos and Pankshin Diocese have donated relief materials to 1,850 households affected by the recent attacks in Plateau State.
The groups also donated N50,000 cash each to the beneficiaries, who were largely victims of recent attacks in Bokkos and Bassa Local Government Areas of the state.
The items were presented to the beneficiaries separately on Saturday.
The JDPC Coordinator of Pankshin diocese, Rev. Fr. Basil Kassam, said that the gesture would cushion the hardship being faced by the victims.
Mr Kassam, who described the recent attacks as unfortunate, said that the gesture was supported by Start Network.
He said, “Start Network is a collection of organisations, such as Christian Aid, Plan International and The Catholic Agency for Overseas Development (CAFOD), among others. Worried by the humanitarian crisis in Bassa and Bokkos, these organisations accessed funds from the network to support JDPC to provide this support. The intervention which included both non-food items and cash were deposited into the beneficiaries’ bank accounts to enable them purchase food of their choice. This flexible approach will empower families to meet their dietary needs while restoring their sense of dignity and decision-making in this difficult time.’’
One of the beneficiaries, Maren John, thanked JDPC and other organisations for coming to their aid.
Some of the items donated included mattresses, buckets, washing and bathing soaps, blankets, mosquito nets, toothpaste, among others.
