Carpenter arraigned for allegedly obtaining N50,000 under pretence

The police in Lagos State have arraigned a 22-year-old man, Oladapo Sodiq, before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly obtaining the sum of N50,000 under false pretence.
Sodiq, whose address was not disclosed, is standing trial on a two-count charge of obtaining under false pretence and stealing.
He however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Inspector Esther Adesulu told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 24, at the UPA section of the Alaba international Market in Ojo.
She alleged that the defendant obtained the sum of N50,000 from one Sunday Onuoha, with a promise to help him construct a piece of furniture cabinet.
The cabinet is valued at N50,000.
According to the prosecutor, the defendant never constructed the furniture, rather, he converted the money to his personal use, without the consent of the owner.
She said the offence contravened the provisions of section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The Magistrate, Funke Ogun granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one responsible surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case until May 6, for mention.
