Canada returnee sentenced to three months in prison for refusing arrest, assaulting Lagos sanitation official

A Magistrate Court sitting at Oshodi, Lagos, on Friday, sentenced Morufudeen Idowu, a Canada returnee, to three months in prison for refusing arrest and assaulting a Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps official.
Tokunbo Wahab, Lagos commissioner for the environment and water resources, in a post on X, shared a video of Mr Idowu embroiled in a fight with a Lagos State environmental official, his face bloodied.
“Mr Morufudeen Idowu – 52 years, a Canada returnee, refused arrest and assaulted one of our personnel while crossing the expressway at Ojota,” Mr Wahab said.
The commissioner said that after Mr Idowu was arraigned before the Magistrate Court, he was sentenced for refusing arrest and assaulting the official.
“Following the arrest of Mr Morufudeen Idowu who assaulted one of our personnels and refused arrest while crossing the expressway at Ojota, he was arraigned before the Magistrate Court sitting at Oshodi, and sentenced to 3 months imprisonment,” Mr Wahab said.
Mr Idowu, who was paraded in a white singlet and shorts, has not made any statement on his conviction.
