Businesswoman arraigned for issuing dud cheque

A 42-year-old businesswoman Blessing Vincent was on Tuesday arraigned before a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged issuance of N517, 440 dud cheque.
Ms Vincent was arraigned on charges bordering on criminal breach of trust and cheating.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Chidi Leo, told the court that Samson Edward, of Tropical Hotel Barnawa Kaduna, reported the matter at Barnawa Police Station, on February 18.
According to Leo, the defendant booked a room for N15, 680 daily on January 16, but refused to pay for the accommodation since then.
He said that the money accumulated to N517, 440 and on February 17, she dishonestly issued him a cheque knowing there was no money in the account.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
The defendant, however, denied committing the offences.
Miss Rita Daniel, counsel to the defendant, applied for her bail on liberal terms.
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, however, gave bail to the defendant in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
He said one of the sureties must be a Grade Level 10 officer in the federal civil service or a pastor with proof.
Mr Emmanuel said the defendant should return to the hotel and should write an application to maintain peace.
He adjourned the case until April 22 for hearing.
