Businessman sentenced to 30 months in prison over N240,000 fraud

A Jos Magistrates’ Court on Monday sentenced a 49-year-old businessman, Abubakar Adams, to 30 months imprisonment for swindling a woman out of N240,000.
The magistrate, Shawomi Bokkos, sentenced Mr Adams following his guilty plea.
The magistrate, however, gave the convict an option to pay N50,000 as a fine.
She also ordered the convict to pay N240,000 as compensation to the complainant.
The prosecutor, Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported at the Area Command Police Station on February 20 by Maryann Ogbue, the complainant.
Mr Gokwat said the convict collected N240,000 from the complainant to buy grains for her, but immediately after the money was transferred to his account, he switched off his phone and went into hiding.
The police officer said Mr Adams confessed that he converted the money to his personal use.
