Businessman docked for allegedly stealing 1,500 blocks

The Police on Thursday arraigned a 38-year-old businessman, Hassan Mamman, who allegedly stole 1,500 piece of building blocks.
The police charged Mr Mamman of Iddo village Abuja with theft before a Lugbe Grade 1 Area Court.
Mr Mamman, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge levelled against him.
The prosecutor, Stanley Nwaforaku, told the court that Chukwu Johnson of Apo, around primary school Abuja, reported the case at the Lugbe Police Station, on Aug. 26
Mr Nwaforaku said that the defendant dishonestly stole the complainant’s 1,500 piece of nine-inch building blocks worth N570,000.
He said the defendant used the said blocks to build a fence at plot 2342 Lugbe 1 Extension without the consent of the owner.
The prosecutor said that during police investigation, the defendant could not give a satisfactory account of his actions.
He said that the offences contravened Section 287 of the Penal Code.
The judge, Aliyu Kagarko, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N 2 million with a surety in like sum.
He ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and produce a means of identification.
He adjourned the case until Sept. 7, for hearing.
