BoT disowns July NYC national convention in Abuja

The Board of Trustees of the Nigerian Youths Congress (NYC), an interest group, has disassociated itself from a purported national special convention and elective congress of the association scheduled for July in Abuja.
The BOT Secretary of NYC, Abdu Mohammed, made the position known in a statement on Monday in Abuja.
Mr Mohammed said that the attention of the board was drawn to publications announcing that the NYC national special convention and elective congress would be held in Abuja from July 29 to July 31.
He said, “The board wishes to categorically state that the board has not authorised anybody or group of persons whatsoever by whatever name called to organise a national special convention and elective congress of the NYC.’’
Mr Mohammed warned the organisers of the unauthorised national special convention and elective congress to desist from the planned activity.
He also urged members of the public to ignore the notices, saying that the board has nothing to do with the said organisers.
“By the constitution of the NYC, only the BOT is empowered to convene any national special convention and election congress. The board, therefore, viewed the publication as the handiwork of fraudsters and scammers who are out to defraud Nigerians under the guise of NYC,” Mr Mohammed said.
The organisers of the event had earlier said that it was set to host the 2025 national special convention and elective congress in Abuja.
They stated that the national convention aimed to provide a platform for members to discuss crucial issues affecting the youth and the nation.
The organisers said that the event would involve discussions, debates and elections that would shape the future of the organisation and the Nigerian youth sector.
