The chairman of Boot Party in Ogun, Abiodun Akerele, on Wednesday, urged Gov. Dapo Abiodun to urgently address the rising cases of cult-related killings across the state.

Mr Akerele, who made this appeal during the official launching of the party in Abeokuta, also expressed deep concern over growing insecurity in the state.

He noted that the governor, who is the chief security officer of the state, has a constitutional duty to ensure peace and unity in Ogun.

Mr Akerele further stressed that the governor’s position comes with the responsibility of safeguarding lives and property.

He added that residents of Ogun should hold Mr Abiodun accountable if he failed to take the necessary steps to curb the violence in the state.

“Gov. Dapo Abiodun has been so silent about the killings among cult members in Ogun.

“I think he should stop the audio promises and act accordingly because he is the governor of the state. He’s saddled with the responsibility to make sure there’s peace and unity in the state.

“He should take action because he’s there to serve the people of Ogun. Everyone should hold him responsible if he fails to do the needful,” the party chairman said.

Speaking on the issue of local government autonomy, Mr Akerele posited that the just-concluded local government election in the state was “not an election but a selection.

“One will see that in the just-concluded election, what we had was not an election but a selection.

“But, hopefully, come 2027 when the government is changed, we can have a true democracy. because what we have now is not democracy.

“Therefore, Nigerians should not expect much from them.”

He declared that the Boot Party has come to stay in Ogun and was ready to take over power with success during the 2027 general elections.

”The party has come to stay and we are working to ensure that we take over in 2027. We want to make sure our people who can rule and govern get into positions,” Mr Akerele said.
