Benue assembly passes Persons With Disabilities Rights Commission establishment bill

The Benue House of Assembly has passed the Persons With Disabilities Rights Commission Establishment Bill, 2025.
The bill was passed during the plenary on Friday in Makurdi.
In a lead debate, the deputy speaker, Lami Danladi, said that persons with disabilities were deprived of certain basic rights and entitlements because of the absence of a commission.
She said that Nasarawa and Plateau had enacted the law and it was in operation, disclosing that Benue was the only state in the North Central that was yet to pass the law.
The majority leader, Saater Tiseer, urged the house to review part six of the law, stating that women and children should be replaced with persons with disabilities in order not to discriminate against other persons with disabilities.
The speaker, Hyacinth Dajoh, called on the clerk, John Hwande, to read the bill for the third time, which he did.
Mr Dajoh declared that “the bill having been read for the third time is hereby passed.”
