Be of good character or lose your admission, VC advises new students

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun, Osun State, Prof, Akeem Lasisi, has urged newly-admitted students to be worthy in character and learning or risk losing their admission.
Mr Lasisi stated this at a two-day orientation organised on Tuesday in Ila-Orangun for the newly-admitted students of the 2024/2025 academic session.
The VC, represented by his deputy, Prof. Monsuru Adeleke, said that good character was the foundation for academic excellence.
According to him, no matter how brilliant a student may be, if or she lacks good character, such a student cannot be awarded a certificate.
He urged the new students to embrace good character and shun all forms of social-vices.
Mr Lasisi said that any student who lacked the required learning character might lose his or her admission.
He stated, “If you are admitted as a student in this university, you can count yourself lucky because more than 4,000 candidates applied to this institution, but only 1000 were admitted. Good character is important, so before a certificate can be awarded to any student, he or she must be found worthy both in character and learning. Be diligent and thrive to be the best in your academics. The orientation programme is put in place to open the eyes and minds of the students to different aspects of the university’s life. The programme will also assist the students to know what is expected of them as students of the university. If after this orientation, you go against the rules and regulations of the school, you will be penalised.’’
In his presentation, an official from Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, Laaro Sulaiman, urged the students against cybercrime and “yahoo-yahoo” otherwise known as internet fraud. .
Mr Sulaimon, who urged them to be conscious of the risks involved in cybercrime, said they should not engage in it.
According to him, students should use the knowledge from the internet to grow themselves, rather than using it to destroy themselves.
The students were also sensitised to the dangers of corruption, the university’s code of conduct, documentation and registration.
They were also sensitised to the benefits of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), and warned against indecent dressing, bullying, examination malpractices, cultism, among others.
