Bayelsa United Football Club of Yenagoa resumed preparations for the 2026/2027 Nigeria National League (NNL) season on Monday, aiming for promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

The team’s first training session took place at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa, under the supervision of the technical crew led by assistant coach Ngozi Elechi and Anderson West.

The players underwent light fitness drills and tactical exercises as the coaches assessed their fitness levels ahead of a more intensive pre-season programme.

The squad is expected to be strengthened with additional players before participating in the Bayelsa United/Prosperity Cup pre-season tournament in Yenagoa.

Addressing the players, a member of the club’s management board, Godson Ekarde, urged them to approach the new campaign with discipline, commitment and a winning mentality as they seek promotion to the NPFL.

Ekarde described the forthcoming season as a crucial one, in line with Governor Douye Diri’s directive that the club should return to the NPFL.

“The management will provide the necessary support for the team to compete strongly in the NNL and secure promotion back to the NPFL.

“We urge the players and the technical crew to justify the confidence reposed in them by delivering improved and consistent performances throughout the season,” he said.
