The police command in Bauchi State has arrested two suspects for alleged criminal conspiracy, obstruction of public officers on duty, assault and malicious damage.

The command’s spokesperson, Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, saying the incident occurred around 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.

According to him, the suspects were arrested when officers from the ‘E’ Division patrol team were conducting routine enforcement under Operation Velvet along Yelwa Road.

Mr Habib said the officers intercepted a vehicle driven by one Friday, whose surname was not immediately known, and Yunana Ali, and requested to see the vehicle documents.

“Rather than comply with lawful directives, the duo allegedly became hostile, refused to present the documents, and resorted to physically assaulting the patrol team, in the process tearing the uniform of an Inspector of police”, he said.

He said the suspects were subsequently arrested and taken to the ‘E’ Division, where an investigation had commenced.

The state commissioner of police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the incident, describing it as an affront to constituted authority and a deliberate attempt to undermine law enforcement efforts aimed at ensuring public safety.

He said the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
