Bauchi govt targets two million children for polio immunisation

The Bauchi State government says it has targeted 2,286,057 children for immunisation in the July round Oral Polio Campaign (OPC) across its 20 local government areas.
Rilwanu Mohammed, Executive Chairman, Primary Healthcare Development Agency, stated this at the inauguration of the exercise on Friday in Bauchi.
He said though the country has been certified polio free, Bauchi continues immunisation to ensure that the status quo remained paramount.
He said the state received 2,367,450 doses of the vaccine to facilitate smooth conduct of the exercise, adding that every eligible child must be reached during the OPC.
“Some 4,023 house-to-house teams are to conduct the exercise,” he said.
While commending development partners for their support to the exercise, Mr Mohammed urged residents of the state to keep a clean environment to guard against outbreak of waterborne diseases.
The Incidence Manager, Emergency Operation Center (EOC), Salis Idris said that 1,280 teams had been deployed to religious places of worship, schools, markets and parks while 646 teams would marn fixed posts.
Also speaking, Mahmud Babamaji, Chairman, Bauchi Local Government Council, said the council would engage community and religious leaders towards improving immunisation uptake in the area.
