The police command in Katsina has commenced training for its patrol and guard officers to enhance their operational capabilities and improve public safety and security.

Police commissioner Aliyu Abubakar-Musa said this at the opening of the programme on Monday in Katsina.

The training aims to refresh the officers’ capability to remain in good shape to combat crimes effectively.

Mr Abubakar-Musa observed that combatting crimes would only be achieved through equipping the police operatives with the necessary skills and knowledge to discharge their duties effectively.

He added that the training covered a range of topics such as the core police duties and responsibilities, advanced weapon handling and tactics, defensive driving, and vehicle management.

The police chief emphasised the importance of training and retraining police personnel amid security challenges.

“Officers must be equipped with the latest skills and knowledge to effectively respond to emerging security challenges and ensure protection of lives and property of the citizens of the state.

“The training programme is in line with the vision and mission of the inspector general of police to ensure a professionally competent and service-driven police force.

“A professionally competent and service-driven police force that can respond to the changing dynamics of the security situation in the country,” he said.

He revealed that the command remained committed to providing top-notch training to its personnel and ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.
