The Plateau government is to recruit 2,000 youths into its security outfit, Operation Rainbow, as part of efforts to tackle insecurity in rural communities.

Gakji Shipi, acting coordinator of the outfit, disclosed this on Tuesday at a seminar organised by 3 Div. Nigerian Army, Rukuba, near Jos.

According to Mr Shipi, the move will ensure proper intelligence gathering aimed at ensuring peace and security, particularly in the hinterlands.

“I have the matching order to recruit 2,000 youths into Operation Rainbow; we will do this at the community levels. We will be recruiting from the communities because the youths there know the terrain better

“We expect that they will also be passionate to work for the peace and prosperity of their people,” he said.

Mr Shipi said that the government would seek the guidance of traditional institutions and other critical stakeholders in the recruitment process.

He said the recruits would be properly trained to handle the assignment, which is critical to protecting every Plateau resident.
