At least six people have been rushed to hospital with various degrees of injuries following a mass shooting incident at the student union building on the campus of Florida State University in Tallahassee on Thursday.

According to the New York Times, the shooting occurred around 12:00 p.m. at the student union building, prompting the university to immediately issue an emergency alert advising students to remain indoors and avoid the scene of the incident.

The injured were rushed to the Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare, with the hospital stating that one of them is in critical condition and the five others in serious condition.

Details of the incident still remain largely unclear as at the time of filing this report but the building and its surrounding area were still “an active crime scene,” according to the university as police commenced evacuation of academic buildings and escorting students to safety.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Jacksonville, Florida, said “FBI Jacksonville and the Tallahassee Resident Agency are on the scene at Florida State University and assisting our local law enforcement partners.”

Meanwhile, the university officials have canceled all classes, events, business operations and athletics activities for the rest of the week.
