ASUU elects new president; Piwuna succeeds Osodeke

Chris Piwuna, a professor of Medicine and consultant physiatrist, has been elected as the new national president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
Mr Piwuna emerged the winner, at an election on Sunday, conducted during the 23rd National Delegates Congress, held at the University of Benin City in Edo.
The new president was a former dean of Students Affairs at the University of Jos and erstwhile national vice-president of the staff union.
His triumph was secured after polling most of the votes against his opponent, Adamu Babayo, from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in Bauchi.
The new president will take over from Emmanuel Osodeke, a professor of Agriculture at the University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia, who has served since 2021.
An official communique is expected to be released on Monday at the end of the congress.
