Asaba 2025: Tinubu pledges continued support for sports development

President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerian youths that his administration would continue to support the development of sports in the country.
Mr Tinubu gave the assurance while declaring open the 9th edition of the National Youths Games tagged “Asaba 2025” on Friday in Asaba, Delta.
The president was represented by Sunday Dare, special adviser to the president on media and public communication.
Mr Tinubu said he was delighted with the Nigerian youths who came from states to participate in the games.
He said his administration had celebrated the success of the Super Falcons and D’Tigress to show his level of commitment to sports development.
The president, who described sports as a verifiable factor that unites and promotes peaceful coexistence, said his administration will continually invest in the development of sports.
Mr Tinubu, while commending youths who came from various states to participate in the festival, urged them to give their best in their individual games and make their various states proud.
“I am delighted to see over 6,000 athletes who are youths and have come from various states to participate in the 9th edition of the National Youths Games in Asaba.
“My administration will continually support the development of sportsmen and women, in promoting every sports, just like we celebrated the Super Falcons, and the Nigeria Female Basketball team, D’Tigress.
“I believe several young talents in football, basketball, boxing and several other sports will emerge and they will be recruited in our various sports federations to nurture their skills.
“I am also delighted to inform you that sports development in Nigeria is in the hands of capable people like Shehu Dikko, chairman, National Sports Commission and Bukola Olopade, director-general of National Sports Commission,” he said.
The president encouraged all athletes to be determined and aim for the gold during the games.
