Brig.-Gen. Jafaar Ibrahim, the commander of 2 Brigade Nigerian Army, Akwa Ibom, says the army’s anti-bunkering operations in the Niger Delta region have been “remarkably successful.”

Mr Ibrahim, who made the remarks while speaking to journalists in Uyo on Monday, stated that oil theft and pipeline vandalism had reduced drastically.

He said the operations of the army had led to a huge improvement in oil production in the Niger Delta region.

“This is a good omen to the national economic recovery efforts of the federal government. Our operations have also reduced security threats and rekindled confidence among Akwa Ibom residents,” he said.

Mr Ibrahim restated the commitment of the brigade to collaborate with other security agencies to ensure law and order in the state.

“We shall continue to discharge our constitutional responsibility with every form of responsiveness and loyalty. The brigade’s commitment to partner other security agencies to ensure peace, law and order in Akwa Ibom is unwavering,” he said.

Mr Ibrahim further expressed the resolve of the brigade to always engage the civil populace with a view to strengthening collaboration.

“We are very deliberate about our corporate social responsibility to the community around us. We are partners in progress,” he added.
