Army hands over suspected killer of female FUNAAB student to police

The Nigerian Army on Thursday handed over a kidnap and murder suspect, identified as Adeleke Ayomide, a 200-level Philosophy student of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ogun State, to the Lagos state police command.
The detained suspect was arrested at his parents’ house in Ikorodu for the alleged killing of a 300-level student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Ogun state, identified as Idowu Christiana.
“23-year-old Ayomide Adeleye has been handed over to #LagosPoliceNG by 9 Brigade #HQNigerianArmy. The handover took place today, September 5, 2024, at about 1400hrs. Investigation is ongoing,” the command’s public relations officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed on his official X handle.
The victim, who was said to have left home in Itaoluwo, Ikorodu, heading to the University of Lagos (UNILAG), where she was undergoing industrial training, got stranded on her way and decided to go to the suspect’s family shop near his house.
The suspect, who was caught with the smartphone belonging to the victim, confessed at the scene of the arrest that he killed Ms Idowu and buried her in a shallow grave within the compound.
The suspect was also said to have called his victim’s family with her phone to demand N3 million ransom, which was later reduced to N350,000 after several pleas. He was later traced and captured through information obtained from his bank and BVN details after he received the ransom.
