APGA condemns electoral violence, irregularities in Enugu guber race

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), on Monday, in Enugu, condemned what it called malfeasance, violence and illegalities that marred Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
Its chairman in Enugu State, Ndubuisi, described the election as a complete sham carried out without regard to the Electoral Law 2022 and INEC guidelines.
He stated that the exercise was a dent on democracy and hopes for a new era in the state.
“We completely reject the entire process and consider whatever the outcome is as flawed.
“We also commiserate with everyone who was hurt physically and celebrate those who remained adamant in the pursuit of justice and fairness.
“When a conclusive result is announced, we will make our full position and next steps known,’’ he added.
The party equally celebrated the courage and dedication of those who braved the violence and threats and turned out to vote on Saturday.
“While we await the announcement of a conclusive result by INEC, we would like to state categorically that APGA condemns the gross malfeasance, violence and illegalities that characterised the election,’’ EnechiOnyia stated.
Supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and those of Labour Party (LP) staged a protest at the INEC office in Enugu on Monday.
They expressed their angst on what they observed as irregularities in the election results of Nkanu East and Nsukka council areas.
PDP supporters called on INEC to declare its governorship candidate, Dr Peter Mbah, as elected.
Supporters of the LP, however, called for the cancellation of the Nkanu East and Nsukka council areas results for non-usage of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System.
The protest led to the suspension of results collation for the two affected council areas.
