APC seeks IG’s intervention on inauguration of 16 Plateau lawmakers

The All Progressives Congress has tasked the Inspector-General of Police to intervene and ensure that its 16 Plateau lawmakers are sworn-in by the Speaker of the state House of Assembly.
The party’s National Vice-Chairman South-West, Isaac Kekemeke, said this when he spoke with journalists in Abuja.
Mr Kekemeke said that this was part of the resolutions at the National Working Committee of the party on Wednesday in Abuja.
He said the NWC also resolved to petition the attorney-general of the Federation on the issue.
He added that the party would adopt every legal means to ensure that the lawmakers were sworn-in in accordance with the judgment of the Court of Appeal.
He said, “The Court of Appeal reaffirmed the decision of the tribunal and we frown at the illegality of the Speaker of Plateau Assembly and the state governor. It is sad that the governor, who is enjoying the office by virtue of the constitution of the country, wants to deny the 16 members of the APC the fruit of their electoral victory. He wants to deny our party the success of our victory at the poll. This is a big threat to democracy and an unacceptable behaviour.
The NWC expresses its absolute displeasure over this continued illegality. This is unacceptable from both the governor, Speaker and the PDP at large.’’
Mr Kekemeke added: “Because the APC is a peaceful party we are calling on the law enforcement agencies to do the needful, we will use every legal instrument to ensure that the 16 APC lawmakers are sworn-in.’’
