APC endorses Akpabio as Senate President, Abass as Speaker

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has endorsed the former governor of Akwa Ibom state, Godswill Akpabio, to lead the red chambers of the 10th National Assembly.
Consequently, the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) ratified Abass Tajudeen, a Kaduna lawmaker, to lead the House of Representatives as Speaker.
Per the statement released via the party’s Twitter account and signed by its publicity secretary, Felix Morka on Monday, Barau Jubrin (Kano) and Ben Kalu (Abia) would respectively deputise the proposed leaders.
“The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) met today, Monday, May 8, 2023, to consider reports of consultations and meetings held with the President-Elect, His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, other Party leaders and stakeholders on zoning arrangement for 10th National Assembly leadership positions.
“The NW/C noted with respect the outcome of the meetings held between the President-Elect and the leadership of the NW/C. The NWC called for further and better consultation with necessary stakeholders in order to assure the support of the aspirants to the National Assembly leadership positions and members of the Party nationwide,” the statement read.
The statement further listed Messrs Akpabio, Tajudeen, Jubrin and Kalu as endorsed candidates calling party leaders and members to work together during and beyond the leadership transition.
