APC clears 16 LGAs in Ondo, results of two councils pending

The Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) has declared the All Progressive Congress (APC) as the winner in 16 local governments in Saturďay’s election held in the state.
Twelve political parties participated in the local government election for positions of chairman, deputy chairman and councillors in the 18 local government councils.
Announcing the result on Sunday, Joseph Aremo, chairman of the commission and chief returning officer, said the APC also won all the councillorship seats in the 16 LGAs.
Mr Aremo said the results for Owo LGA and Ondo West LGA, which were cancelled and rescheduled for Sunday due to the wrong logo of one of the parties on the ballot papers, would be announced later.
The election in Ondo West LGA was cancelled because the old logo of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) was on the ballot papers.
ODIEC chairman and the election’s returning officer said that after the conclusion of the Ondo West LGA election later today, the two remaining results would be announced at 7:00 p.m.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), one of the 13 parties registered for the election, withdrew 48 hours before the exercise.
The party’s spokesperson in Ondo, Leye Igbagbo, in a statement on Thursday in Akure, said the withdrawal was because it had no confidence in ODIEC conducting a credible and fair election.
Action Alliance (AA); All Progressives Congress (APC); Labour Party (LP); Action Peoples Party (APP); New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP); Boot Party (BP); and Social Democratic Party (SDP) participated in the election.
Other parties are the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Young Progressive Party (YPP), All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), National Rescue Movement (NRM), and the Action Democratic Party (ADP).
