Anambra: Police launch manhunt for unknown gunmen over killing of five people

The police command in Anambra has launched a manhunt for suspected gunmen over the killing of five persons in Idemili and Dunukofia LGAs on Monday.
During a press briefing, the command’s spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this on Monday in Awka.
“Our operatives are currently at the scene. The police have launched an investigation into the attacks and are working to apprehend the perpetrators. As soon as I get more facts, I will get back to you,” he said.
The attacks were launched simultaneously at 8:00 a.m. in Abatete in Idemili and 8.45 a.m. in Ukpo, Dunukofia on Monday.
Some community leaders, who pleaded anonymity in the Abatete community in the Idemili local government area, told journalists that the assailants first shot at the security personnel attached to the president-general of the community.
They said three security men were gunned down by the suspects, who operated like commandos.
The community leaders said the presidential-general of the community, who sustained serious injuries from the gunshots of the unidentified gunmen, was already receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
Other residents of the area called for adequate security in the area.
Similarly, some unidentified gunmen attacked the Ukpo community in Dunukofia LGA, killing one vigilante operative and a motorcyclist at the Ukpo roundabout.
