Human rights organisation, Amnesty International, has condemned authorities of the University of Ibadan, Oyo State, for suspending three students for protesting against fee hike.

It also called for their immediate reinstatement.

In a statement on Monday, Amnesty International noted that it strongly condemned the suspension and ongoing persecution of Ayodele Aduwo, Nice Linus and Mide Gbadegesin by the university management for speaking up against an outrageous fee hike in 2024.

It added, “The management of University of Ibadan must end all the unfair processes the three students are being subjected to. For almost a year, the students have been subjected to unfair disciplinary hearings.”

Calling for the reversal of the suspension, the human rights organisation said, “No one should be punished for decrying the university’s fee hike during Nigeria’s worst economic crisis in a generation. The decision of the university to suspend them for four semesters must be reversed.”
