AMGA 2024: Six countries to battle for honours in volleyball

Six men’s and two women’s teams are set to compete in the ongoing 2024 African Military Games volleyball event in Abuja.
The fixtures for the volleyball event were announced at a technical meeting held on Saturday at the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) boardroom.
The competition will kick off on Monday with the following matchups: Sierra Leone vs Burkina Faso (12:00 p.m.), Ghana vs Kenya (2:00 p.m.) and host Nigeria vs Algeria (4:00 p.m.).
The NVBF president, Musa Nimrod, highlighted the importance of the African Military Games as a platform for promoting unity and camaraderie among African nations.
He said, “This is more than just a tournament. It is a celebration of African strength, discipline, and teamwork.”
Nimrod also praised the chief of defence staff, Christopher Musa, for the recent renovations to the indoor sports hall.
“When I entered the hall, I was pleasantly surprised by the extensive renovations. The improvements have made the arena more beautiful and functional,” added Mr Nimrod. “I want to commend the Chief of Defence Staff for investing in the nation’s sports facilities.”
Aliyu Pindar, the chairman of the FCT Volleyball Association, also expressed confidence in Nigeria’s Armed Forces volleyball team.
“I am confident that these players will make the country proud. They are hungry for glory, and the African Military Games provide the perfect platform for them to shine,” he said.
The draws have now concluded, and all participating countries will be ready to slug it out in the battle for supremacy in African military volleyball.
The competition showcases not only the athletic prowess of the players but also the spirit of unity and pride that defines the African continent.
