Man United left it late as they came back from one goal down to secure a dramatic 2-1 win over Man City in the Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday as Pep Guardiola’s side’s nightmare continues.

City went into halftime with a 1-0 win after unmarked Josko Gvardiol headed home a deflected cross from Kevin De Bruyne.  Despite a relatively good performance, United failed to make any attacking impact with no shot on target in the half.

The Red Devils managed to tame the attacking threat of the hosts in the second half with no shot on target throughout the second 45 minutes. United’s first real attempt came in the 62nd minute after Amad Diallo forced Ederson to a save from Bruno Fernandes’ cross.

In the 74th minute, United were presented with a golden opportunity to equalise after Rasmus Hojlund laid a through pass to Bruno. However, the Red Devils’ captain missed his target following a tipped effort.

It was time for Fernandes to make up for the chance he missed earlier after United were awarded a penalty in the 86th minute after Matheus Nunes tripped Amad, who was capitalising on a short pass by Kyle Walker, inside the box.

Fernandes calmly slotted home the ball in the 88th minute to equalise for the visitors. United did not have to wait too long at all to score again after Amad tipped a cross from Lisandro Martinez before slicing it home to secure a dramatic win for Ruben Amorim’s side two minutes later.

The goal secured Amad’s impressive performance in the derby.

Amorim’s gamble definitely paid off after dropping both Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho from the matchday squad, stating it was his selection after watching the players in training.

Man City have now only managed to win one game out of their last 11 matches across all competitions. This is an unprecedented run in Guardiola’s managerial career.

“It was incredible. It was Fergie time, I believe in it… something magic happened,” Amorim said after the game.

“I think we deserved it. It was a very tough match but we believed until the end. We managed to score, we needed that win, it was important for us and for our fans,” he added.
