The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has charged the 258 members of Junior Course 99 that true measure of leadership entailed humility, character and inspiration to uplift subordinates.
Mr Abubakar gave the charge at the graduation ceremony of Junior Course 99 at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), on Friday at Jaji Military Cantonment Kaduna State.
He said, “Indeed, this ceremony celebrates your academic achievements, military excellence, and reaffirms the AFCSC’s unwavering commitment to the intellectual and professional development of junior cadre officers. True leadership is not measured solely by the authority you wield, but by the humility you display, the consistency of your character, and your capacity to inspire and uplift those under your command.”
Mr Abubakar, who was the special guest of honour, congratulated the graduands on their achievements and emphasised the importance of leadership, innovation, and critical thinking in the modern military.
He also emphasised the importance of adaptability, innovation, and critical thinking in a fast-changing operational environment.
The CAS commended the college’s efforts in fostering partnerships and collaborations with allied nations, highlighting the importance of international cooperation in maintaining peace and stability.
Mr Abubakar said, “As we celebrate your success, let us be reminded of the national and global security landscape in which you will operate. Our nation, like many others, faces evolving asymmetric threats ranging from terrorism, banditry, and cyber threats to transnational organised crime. These threats do not respect borders or traditional hierarchies. They require jointness, inter-agency collaboration, and strategic foresight.”
According to Mr Abubakar, AFCSC plays a pivotal role in preparing the officers for reality through rigorous training, joint exercises, and a multidisciplinary curriculum.
He stated, “The phrase ‘passed Junior Staff Course’ is not merely a title. It is a solemn call to higher service, better judgment, and greater responsibility. To our esteemed allied students, I offer my warmest congratulations. Your presence here reflects our shared commitment to peace, stability, and professional military cooperation across the region and beyond. You have enriched this course with valuable perspectives and experiences. As you return to your respective countries, I urge you to carry forward the spirit of collaboration and mutual respect that has defined your time at the college.’’
The air chief added that the friendships and partnerships formed would serve as the bedrock for future joint operations, peacekeeping missions, and multinational endeavours.
Mr Abubakar expressed his profound appreciation to President Bola Tinubu, for his support to the Armed Forces.
He stated, “He is committed to enhancing military professionalism, improving training infrastructure, and advancing the welfare of personnel continues to inspire transformation across all services.’’
The awards were given to the participants who distinguished themselves during the course of study.
