Again, EFCC arraigns ex-Lagos Attorney-General Shasore for corruption

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arraigned former Lagos attorney general Olasupo Shasore for official corruption, barely 24 hours after he was also arraigned for money laundering.
Mr Shasore was on Friday brought before the Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos, on a two-count charge for alleged corrupt offers to public officers.
According to court filings, the senior lawyer gave a total sum of $200,000 to induce two public officers in 2014 while he was in office.
Prosecutors say the act contravened Section 9(1)(a)(b) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act.
Mr Shasore pleaded not guilty.
Subsequently, EFCC lawyer Bala Sanga requested for a trial date to prove the allegations against the former attorney general.
Mr Shasore’s lawyer, Yemi Candide-Johnson, applied for his bail arguing that his client is not a flight risk and that the alleged offences are bailable.
Mr Sanga, did not object to the bail application but prayed the court to give conditions that will ensure that Mr Shasore attends his trial.
The judge granted him bail and released him with an undertaking for the defendant to be present in court during the trial.
The matter has been adjourned till December 6, for continuation of the trial.
On Thursday, the EFCC arraigned Mr Shasore before the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court on a four-count charge of money laundering.
