AEDC accused of aggravating suffering of consumers in parts of FCT

An electricity consumer, Jimoh Olarewaju, says the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) is aggravating the suffering of its consumers in parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Mr Olarewaju, a resident of Kubwa, said this in an interview on Sunday while reacting to AEDC’s notice to its customers in Kubwa Abuja.
AEDC had attributed the outage to stormy weather, saying it damaged many critical equipment serving
“F01, Military Pension Board, Dantata Estate, Chikakore Community, Byazhin, Across, Arab Road, Mopol Barracks, Kubwa Extension III, FCDA Owners Occupier, Army Scheme, Phase 3, Phase 4, and environs.”
The company added that engineers were currently working to restore power supply.
However, the customer, who lamented a blackout in Kubwa for over a week, alleged that AEDC gave three reasons on different occasions for the outage.
He said,” First, they said it was a feeder pillar that had an issue; secondly, they said some of their equipment were vandalised, and now stormy weather damaged critical equipment.
”What people are saying is that the issue is a deliberate effort to sabotage this government, as we all know that people are going through a lot presently.”
According to him, with the removal of the fuel petrol subsidy and the dollar issue, the only thing that makes people sit at home is electricity, which is unavailable.
Mr Olarewaju said consumers were complaining bitterly as it was affecting their businesses.
”At the same time, there is a scarcity of fuel, and people are queuing to get the product, and the money is not there.
”We even learnt that there is enough electricity to transmit, but the distribution companies are not taking enough.
“That is why people are saying it is sabotage; if the power supply is available, we are ready to buy,” he said.
