The rule All Progressives Congress (APC)  has derided the coalition of opposition politicians championed by former vice president Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra governor Peter Obi and former Kaduna governor, Nasir El-Rufai, as a coalition of vendetta seeking people with a birthright to power mentality.

Felix Morka, spokesperson for the ruling party, in a statement on Thursday, said the coalition is driven by selfish politicians who placed their interest above Nigeria’s.

“It was an unveiling of a coalition of hoaxers and self-obsessed merchants of vendetta, a roll call of Nigeria’s me-or-nothing politicians, who equate their selfish interest with the interest of Nigerians, who cannot bear to be out of the corridors of power and patronage, who are desperate to grab power for themselves by guile and subterfuge, who lay claim to an immoral birthright to power, even while draped in odious record of betrayal of public trust, and rapacious public service,” the APC said.

The ruling party described the coalescing politicians as “a bunch of egotistical maniacs for whom power and patronage are the oxygen on which their lives depend,” adding “they must think Nigerians to be gullible and uncritical. Quite to the contrary, Nigerians are highly perceptive and discerning and will not be taken in by the coalition’s grand folly.”

On Tuesday, the coalition announced the adoption of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the official party to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

The coalition, which includes Mr Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufai, Mr Obi, and Mr David Mark,  announced David Mark, a former Senate president, and Rauf Aregbesola, a former governor of Osun State, as its national chairman and national secretary, respectively.
