The Adamawa Primary Health Care Development Agency (ADPHCDA) has commenced second-round vaccination of no fewer than 1.2 million children against the polio virus in the state.

Speaking during the commencement of the exercise in the Girei Local government area of the state on Friday, Kaletapwa Farauta, the deputy governor of the state, said the state had vaccinated 1,304,713, which is more than the targeted population in the first round.

She called on parents and caregivers to ensure that their eligible children, aged 0-59 months, participate in the exercise.

According to her, the exercise is meant to eradicate the polio virus amongst children and reduce childhood diseases.

She added that the immunisation would raise the immunity of the children, thereby improving their health and well-being.

Suleiman Bashir, the chairman of ADPHCDA, lauded synergy between the state and development partners, especially UNICEF and WHO, in ensuring health service delivery in the state.

He said the state had received 1.5 doses of novel oral poliomyelitis (nOPV2) vaccine for the two-day exercise in the state.

In his remarks, Ahmed Mustapha, the district head of Girei, assured of their support towards ensuring a successful exercise in the area and state in general.
