The Adamawa government has partnered with the federal government to empower 2,000,000 farmers through President Bola Tunibu’s National Agriculture Growth Scheme and Agric-pocket (NAGSAP) initiative.

David Jatau, Adamawa Commissioner for Agriculture, disclosed this to journalists in Yola on Sunday.

He said Mr Tinubu’s initiative was in line with Governor Umar Fintiri’s determination to invest in agriculture to improve food security, employment opportunities, and people’s living standards.

According to him, enumerators were currently in the field registering farmers from local governments, wards, and unit levels.

Mr Jatau said the governor had already directed the 21 council chairmen to provide 300 hectares of land each, totalling 6,300 hectares.

He said the land would be allocated to 6,300 across the state and provided with all farm inputs, including land preparation for cultivating them.

“At the end of the harvest, those who cultivate the farms will own the produce; the aim is to fight youth restiveness and unemployment and improve food security for having available food,” he said.

According to him, each LGA will again provide one hectare to be used as a model farm for training 100 youths in each LGA on climate-smart agriculture.
