A Grade I Area Court in Abuja on Friday ordered a 28-year-old scavenger, Sunny Chris, to clean its premises for one day for public nuisance.

The judge, Muhammad Adamu, also ordered Mr Chris to receive counselling from officials of the correctional facility for three days on the consequences of committing crime.

Mr Adamu further warned him to be of good behaviour.

Mr Chris, who lives in Kubwa, Abuja, had earlier pleaded guilty to public nuisance and begged the court for leniency.

“I am married and I have two children. I beg the court to temper justice with mercy so that I can go back to my family,” he said.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, John Okpa, told the court that the complainant, Rotimi Williams, of Kubwa, Abuja, reported the matter at the Kubwa Police Station on May 17.

Mr Okpa said Mr Chris was caught wandering the complainant’s house and he could not give a satisfactory account of himself when questioned.

The prosecution counsel said Mr Chris’ act endangered the lives of people within the area adding that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 183 of the Penal Code.
