Abuja guard jailed 17 months for fraud

On Thursday, the Kabusa Grade One Area Court, Abuja, sentenced a 32-year-old security guard, Samuel Titus, to 17 months in prison over N1 million fraud.
The judge, Abubakar Sadiq, sentenced the convict of Zone A Apo resettlement, Abuja, after he pleaded not guilty to the theft charge.
Mr Sadiq sentenced the convict with an option of N40,000 fine. The judge also ordered him to pay compensation of N1 million or serve another seven months of jail term in lieu of payment.
The prosecutor, S.O. Osho, told the court that Henry Agbaje reported the matter at the Apo Police Station on January 4.
Mr Osho said sometime in December 2023, the complainant travelled after entrusting his property to his security guard pending his return.
He explained that the convict broke into the complainant’s store and stole items worth N1 million, adding that he sold the items to an unknown person.
According to him, the convict could not give satisfactory reasons for his actions.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened section 389 of the Penal Code.
