Abbas sympathises with victims of Yola flood, urges FG intervention

Sen. Iya Abbas (PDP-Adamawa) has sympathised with victims of the Yola flood disaster and urged the federal government to intervene.
Mr Abbas, in a statement in Yola on Sunday, said the destruction caused by the flood disaster cannot be handled by the local communities.
He called on the relevant agencies operating in the state and other well-to-do individuals to come to the aid of the affected communities.
Mr Abbas commended the timely efforts of Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri and other agencies in Adamawa for providing support to the people.
“I was shocked and saddened by the reports of the degree of damage which includes; houses, schools, hospitals and farmlands.
“I am appealing to all the stakeholders and other philanthropists to show support to the victims irrespective of their political differences”, he said.
The lawmaker said the dredging of River Benue by the federal government became necessary to check the occurrences usually associated with flooding in the affected communities.
The flood disaster is caused by several hours of downpour.
